It's batteries and smoke detector time

Once again we've reached that time of year to push for checking batteries in smoke dectors, checking CO monitors but how about furnaces and chimneys? A little extra push in the area of chimney fires, furnace and chimney inspections could never hurt. We would hope that our friends and neighbors won't skimp on utilities maintanence because they have their noses glued to their laptops watching their portfolios melt...teaming up the HVAC trade to push for better public awareness to get their chimney… Continue

My overall point is that school related incidents are not going to stop. Our mental health systems will remain dysfuntional themselves and we the emergency services will be the first contact as these tragic incindents will no doubt increase. the 'New Angle'...

I think I was only a freshman in highschool when I read "Report from Engine Co 82" (Bravo, Dennis) and I also read "Up the Down Staircase", being a kid from Long Island and Dad worked FDNY in the Marine Division, I had seen the Bronx when we went to visit relatives, South Street Seaport when Lindsay dedicated it, Dad talking about stories of the neighborhoods to avoid... A new angle to modern day "Fire prevention week"

I remember back as a kid during Fire Prevention Week, waiting for the hook and ladder truck to show up at school and have the fireman hand out pencils, balloons and give us stuff to bring home to our parents. We learned not to play with matches and crawl on the floor if your house was filled with smoke. As we got older, stop drop and roll was the 'thing', a horrifying thought, being on fire, not to mention that if you didn't break rule # 1 you wouldn't be on fire in the first place.
