Dennis Smith WHERE'S THE MEAT IN THE ECONOMIC RESCUE?

I have always taught my five children to be careful of jealousy because of its destructive quality, but I must admit I felt in recent weeks just a twinge of envy each time I watched T. Boone Pickens on television airing his views on the energy crisis. Pickens is a great American spending his own money to lay his ideas in front of the American people. And his ideas are sound and well thought out and very attainable - much more reliable than any plans to deal with the oil crisis that have come out… Continue

Dennis Smith DENNIS SMITH: LET THE BUILDINGS FALL AND SAVE THE BRICKS

LET THE BUILDINGS FALL AND SAVE THE BRICKS Dennis Smith Congress was right to kill the banking bailout bill, if even by a few vote. Our American banks and investment firms have some of the smartest people in the world working for them and they brought us to where we are. To begin with, they should never have been given the end-of-the-rainbow pot of de-regulation. That gave them the power to create something called derivitive products, which in most cases is one product that uses another underly… Continue

Dennis Smith DENNIS SMITH REPORTS

TO HONOR 9/11 last week I spent some quality time with the firefighters of Martin County, IAFF Local 2959, and Palm Beach County, IAFF Local 2928. One spark plug, Martin County's Lieutenant Todd Tucker, put together a week of events to memorialize and remember 9/11, including a solemn Blue Mass celebrated by the Bishop of the Palm Beach Diocese, and a moving and patriotic flag ceremony. And, there were evenings of guest speakers. I went to two of these events and felt privileged by being there.… Continue

Jeff New recruits

Started our 6th recruit academy. We have 9 solid candidates for this class. Each year the academy seems to improve. (Good point for the accreditation) . We had to postpone the agility test, heavy rain and streak lightning. Made the best of the situation by giving each recruit a 6’ section of rope and introduction to basic knots. FF Grandin (recruit academy 5 graduate, Zodiac expert and US marine veteran) did a phenomenal job walking everyone through knot 101! So good to see eager recruits. I can… Continue

Jeff Never forget

9-11-08 Well another somber 9-11. As I was driving to my office @ ND, I felt such a sense of loss as I reflected on the events which happened just a few years ago and yet seem so far away. I can not help but think of those who kissed their children goodbye that morning, not knowing that would be the last time. I think how most, probably robotically, went through their daily ritual, boarding trains, buses and POV’s as the migrated from the safety of their homes to their offices at the tower or th… Continue
